Medicinal Treatment

Alleviate symptoms and prevent complications.

Over-the-counter pain relievers like paracetamol (acetaminophen) to manage fever and body aches. Avoid ibuprofen in children with chickenpox due to potential risks.
Oral antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine, cetirizine) to help reduce severe itching, especially at night.
Topical treatments such as calamine lotion or cooling gels to provide localized relief from itching and discomfort.
Antiviral medications (e.g., acyclovir) may be prescribed for severe cases, adults, adolescents, or individuals at high risk of complications, typically within 24 hours of rash onset.
